Presentation to Rock Guitar Lessons

Before you begin with the rock guitar lessons, you need to understand that this will not make you a lead guitar star overnight. Rock guitar lessons will only teach you the basics and advanced techniques. You still need to understand and practice enough to be able to master the art of performing rock guitar. The first phase in rock guitar courses will start with theory which will help you to understand the basic parts of the rock/electric guitar, standard notations, guitar symbols, and basic chord theory. You will also learn to play different scales and chords. You will discover to utilize your views and sentiments to perform the guitar so that in the later stages when you are ready to play, you and your guitar will become one!

The next phase of rock guitar lessons will focus on soloing. You may have been overcome by those amazing guitar solos that you have watched at live concerts or on Channel V or VH1. So here’s your chance to learn soloing, which will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons. In the beginner lessons you will understand more about hammer-ons, bends, open position scales, and vibratos. The intermediate lesson is where you will discover to do your own solo and perform it as well. You will also get to learn how to use natural harmonics and play major scale modes. When you reach the advanced soloing lessons, you will be confident enough to produce your solos and this will persuade you to play them more often. The advanced rock guitar courses will help you to perform different techniques especially with speed.

Speed is an important part of performing the rock guitar as well as soloing and you will really have to rehearse a lot to be able to move your hand freely across the guitar chords at high speed. Once you have mastered the scales, the chords and how to fly your hand over the guitar, you are ready to rock!

Rock guitar is not easy to understand but then it is not impossible because we will handhold you through each and every step of our rock guitar lessons. We see a potential rock guitar player in each of our students and learn the need to bring that rock star to the front and our rock guitar lessons have been developed to bring out your true talent.

Guitar Lessons In Bedfordshire

Guitar Lessons In Bedfordshire

Playing the guitar is growing in popularity year on year (definately in bedfordshire) but while there are many options of how to learn the guitar you first need to ask yourself a few questions before locating a guitar tutor. I personally offer guitar lessons in Bedfordshire (UK) and below are the most common questions that a potential student should ask. From experience many guitar students overlook some of these before proceeding, but answer these and save yourself both time and money.

The questions that you should ask are:

What style of the guitar would I like to play? There are many styles such as classical, blues, ragtime, folk and rock are probably the most popular – but which one would you like to learn?
What songs do you want to learn? Having an idea of the direction that you would like to take is vital. If you like The Rolling Stones, tell your guitar tutor, they can then design a lesson plan around getting you to play their songs. Studies have shown that learning to play something that you enjoy far speeds up the learning process.
How would you like to learn? There are many choices now about the location of your guitar lessons. You can learn via a web cam or online lessons nowadays, but I wouldn’t advise it at first. While these both have their benefits a one to one tuition is probably better suited for a beginner to correct an potential mistakes early on. Learning over the web can’t do this as well.
Would you like to travel to a guitar tutors house/studio or would you prefer he or she travel to you? Traveling to a guitar tutors house can take up to 30 minutes each way in travelling and fuel costs where as a visiting guitar tutor will only take up an hour of your time – for the same cost (usually). On the other hand, you may enjoy the time out of your house.
What’s your budget? A VITAL question. Don’t begin learning the guitar until you know your budget. Assuming that you already have your guitar, how much money can you now allocate to being taught the guitar – it can soon become expensive. Guitar lessons are usually between £15-£25 per hour. Speak to your guitar tutor first to see if he or she can offer any reduction on lesson fees for block booking. Think about using your guitar tutor when you need them and not every week – a weekly lesson may be too much.
What is your guitar tutors cancellation policy? This too is worth knowing before you proceed. What happens if you are ill 6 hours before a lesson, or your child is taken ill from school and you have to cancel for whatever reason? Ask your tutor this, do you still have to pay the full fee or 50% of the lesson fee? You don’t want this starting an argument several weeks down the line. I personally allow 3 cancellation within 24 hours then after that I charge 50% of the lesson fee.
How far do I want to take the guitar? Do I just want to play for fun or would I like to get some exam grades under my belt. In my experience, most people just want to play for fun and with their friends. Unless you are looking for a career within the music/guitar industry then grades are not necessary. Even if you are looking to join or start a band, grades are not necessary so don’t let this hold you back – playing for fun is often the best and least stressful.

There are many options that you have in getting guitar lessons in Bedfordshire. The reason I signal out Bedfordshire is because it is local to me and so I am familiar with the guitar tutors in this area. I can recommend Max Milligan, who has years of experience. I personally offer a service which you can look into at www.guitarlessonsbedfordshire.co.uk. I travel to the students house as I find this works well in my experience and I do not charge for travel. In a more relaxed atmosphere you can learn better.

A lesson plan is a great idea to have, this can give you a timetable and direction of your lessons and where you are currently and where you need to go next.

Any questions about guitar lessons in Bedfordshire or anyone else don’t hesitate to contact me.

The electric guitar, the greatest entertainment trip in history

The electric guitar, the greatest entertainment trip in history

When you break it down to its scientific function – converting string vibrations into electrical signals using electromagnetic induction – the guitar can sound a bit on the dull side. However, the reality is that its invention has proved to be the greatest entertainment trip of all time, inspiring some of the best music, stories and events of all time.

Perhaps the most beneficial element of the electric signal produced by an electric guitar is its relative weakness in terms of output. This means that it has to be amplified before it can be run through a speaker, and it is this amplification process that delivers the sheer variety of sound that can be produced on an electric guitar. It has also given rise to the ability to manipulate the signal significantly, allowing guitar players to create even more varied sounds.

Reverb, delay, distortion and out and out fuzz call be added to the signal, making the electric guitar the most influential instrument of all time. While these effects can invariable be added to the signal as they hit the amp, they can also be added with effects pedals, meaning that a guitarist can sound super fuzzed one moment, before switching to a clean chorus and a reverberating middle eight.

The trip all began in the early 1900s with guitar makers and enthusiasts experimenting with the electronic amplification of string vibrations. By the 1930 innovators like Les Paul, George Beauchamp and Adolph Rickenbacker were all laying down the blueprints for the modern incarnation of the electric guitar. These early inventions led to the development of the best guitars in history, including the Gibson Les Paul, the Fender Telecaster and the Epiphone .335.

However, it’s probably fair to say that the real impact of the electric guitar wasn’t truly felt until the loved up jack-knife of the sixties. During this era we saw the introduction of Beatlemania, the formation of the Rolling Stones, the invention of metal and rock music,  Jimmy Page played wah-wah guitar with a violin bow in the Yardbirds, as well as the Velvet Underground, The Who and Jimmy Hendrix. Never before has the guitar been so era defining than during its supremacy in the 1960s.

However, when the bubble burst and the wave that started with the sound of an electric guitar slid back we were left with the 70s and 80s. While the guitar had new rivals for the title of the king of sounds, like disco synthesisers, there was still plenty of guitar to keep the entertainment trip at the forefront of musical development. Queen, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones all kept the sound of the electric guitar in the mainstream media spotlight, while punk and metal pushed it on to new possibilities. Films like Back to the Future maintained the popularity of the electric guitar at the movies, making it the most sought after instrument for would be musicians the world over.

Then came the 90s. With it came Oasis, Nevada, Pavement and Blur, putting the electric guitar back in its rightful spot at the front of the excitement. This all led to the dominance of The Strokes in the early 2000s, and the sad transformation of the Kings of Leon from the saviours of the electric guitar, to the boy band stadium fillers that they have now become. The Arctic Monkeys took up the mantle of the electric guitar heroes, but the churn of music has led to a slight crossroads for the electric guitar at the end of the 2000s with the introduction of over dramatisation and sensationalised rubbish, including the likes of the X Factor, into the music mix. However, surely it’s just a matter of time before the might of the electric guitar is felt once again. Where it will come from is pretty hard to say right now, but someone, somewhere is probably penning it all now.

Chet Atkins – Country Guitar Music Legend Part 2

Chet Atkins – Country Guitar Music Legend Part 2

Steve Sholes, RCA Victor’s head of country music, was greatly impressed by Chet’s guitar playing and put him to work immediately. Chet was featured on nearly every recording session from 1949! Mother Maybelle and the Carter Family Sisters hired him a year later as a regular on the Grand Ole Opry signalling that Chet had officially arrived in Nashville. During this time, Chet’s guitar playing wound up on records by Hank Williams, The Louvin Brothers, The Carlisles, Kitty Wells and many others. When Sholes could not make the sessions because of other business obligations, Chet was allowed to produce the recordings himself.

By the mid-50s, Chet was producing 30 artists a year as well as recording his own guitar albums for RCA. His 1954 debut album, “Chet Atkins and His Galloping Guitar” produced his hit instrumental version of “Mister Sandman” and included his now classic “Country Gentleman”. A signature model Gretsch guitar was developed bearing Chet’s name and it eventually became a huge seller in the early 60′s when George Harrison made it his guitar of choice with The Beatles. Chet played on Elvis Presley’s historic RCA debut “Heartbreak Hotel” in 1956 and provided the famous tremoloed electric guitar part on The Everly Brothers “All I Have To Do Is Dream”. If a country song had been recorded in Nashville during the mid 50s to mid 60s, there’s a good chance Chet Atkins played on it or produced it. It was during this time that Chet began to be known as “Mister Guitar”.

Chet was promoted to Manager of Operations at RCA Victor in 1957 and immediately convinced the company to build it’s own office and studio. The result, Studio B, became the first long standing record company office on the now famous “Music Row” in Nashville. It was there that Chet began to craft “The Nashville Sound”. With his savvy approach to production making use of strings, layered background vocals, and pop style arrangements, Chet is often credited with saving popular country music which was in a decline at the time due to the popularity of rock and roll. An endless string of hits poured out of Studio B by such artists as Jim Reeves, Hank Locklin, Roger Miller, Hank Snow, and George Hamilton.

During the 70s Chet began to concentrate more on performing and embarked on several collaborative albums with Lenny Breau, Jerry Reed, Hank Snow, Les Paul, Doc Watson, and Merle Travis – resulting in critical acclaim and many awards. Chet released his first instructional video for guitar in 1987 “Get Started On Guitar” and followed in 1996 with an advanced guitar instructional video “The Guitar of Chet Atkins” which features an in-depth look at Chet’s guitar techniques and a full step-by-step explanation of nine of his solos.

Chet Atkins died of cancer at the age of 77 on June 30th 2001 at his home in Nashville. The musical legacy he left behind is enormous. His friends and fans always described Chet as kind, humble, and genuine – a true “Country Gentleman”. Guitarists the world over can be thankful for the amazing body of work he left behind for them to study. If anyone is worthy of the title “Mister Guitar” it is certainly Chet Atkins.

Peabody Conservatory trained guitarist Steven Herron helps people succeed at becoming better guitar players. His company ChordMelody.com features an enormous, unique selection of country guitar tab as well as guitar books and instructional DVDs by Chet Atkins himself.

Guitar amplifiers are electronic amplifiers designed to be used with electronic musical instruments, such as an electric guitar.

Guitar amplifiers are mainly made in two major forms. The combination (or combo) amplifier has the amplifier head and guitar speakers in a single unit. The amplifier head or amp head contains the electronic circuitry constituting the preamp, built in effects processing, and power amplifier.

In the second form, the amplifier head is detached from the speakers, and joined by cables. The separate amplifier is known as an amplifier head, and is normally located on top of one or more loudspeaker enclosures. This separate amplifier head when placed on top of a guitar speaker enclosure or guitar speaker cabinet forms an amplifier stack or amp stack.

Instrument amplifiers Types

An extensive range of instrument amplifiers can now be used with the electrical guitar. Some are for general purpose and some designed for specific instruments and even for a definite sound. These comprise: Traditional guitar amplifiers which generate a clean, warm sound a sharp treble roll off at 5 kHz or less and bass roll off at 60 to 100 Hz. It has presets with built in reverb and tremolo (vibrato) units.

These types are often used by traditional rock, blues, and country musicians. Chances are that when on higher volume level the sound can get distorted. So to counter higher end bass amplifiers at times include compressor or limiter features, and an XLR DI output to patch the bass signal directly into a mixing board. To keep the bass amplifiers cool they are often provided with external metal heat sinks or fans.

Keyboard amplifiers, have a low distortion rate and also to make things easy for its functioning it has a simple onboard mixer. This assists the keyboardists to control the tone and level of several keyboards.

Acoustic guitar amplifiers are intended solely to produce a clean, transparent, acoustic sound when being used with acoustic instruments with built in transducer pickups and microphones.

In addition to a 1 by 4 inch input jack, some instrument amplifiers bear an additional input jack for inserting microphone. This is known easily as it will use a three pin XLR connector. Conversely, phantom power, which is not a necessary for lower end amplifiers, is often provided with the high end versions, so that musicians can use condenser microphones.

Vacuum tube guitar amplifier circuit is rather uncomplicated. Two triodes are used in the preamplifier section for obtaining a high signal level to implement any tone controls and drive the following sections. Two more triodes split the phase of the signal and drive the final pentode or beam tetrode (kinkless tetrodes) tubes of the push pull power amplifier stage.

Solid state guitar amplifiers commonly have the quickest response time, even more so than modeling amps. Tubes tend to create warm overdrive sounds instead of cutting the peaked signal off. They more or less pull the peaked audio information back (like natural compression) which creates a fuzzy overdrive sound.

Modeling guitar amplifiers are used to simulate sounds of well known cabinets, guitar amps, and effects. Digital processing is done to obtain this, although there are prevalence analog modeling amps as well, like the Tech 21 Sansamp. Modeling amps characteristically output a wide range of tones and effects, and offers cabinet simulation, which aids the recording without a microphone.

Guitar Lessons — Do You Really Need Them?

By: Joe Clements

About the Author

My name is Joe Clements. I learned how to play the guitar the hard way – without guitar lessons. I know how difficult it is for a biginning guitarist to make a decision as to where to turn for lessons. There is so much empty hype out there that it confuses even me. I have discovered a very rewarding software based program that really delivers the goods. You don’t even have to buy it. The free lessons that it provides are enough to give you a very good understanding of the fundamentals. To receive your six free lessons, click here: http://superguitarlesson.com

I grew up listening to some amazing guitarists. I don’t have enough space to list them all, but a few of my favorites were Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton, the highly underrated Robby Krieger, and all the blues playing Kings. These guys were phenomenal guitarists and, to me, were nothing short of inspirational. The more I heard, the more I wanted to learn to play the guitar like them.

I became obsessed with the idea that I could learn to play guitar as well as these guys. However, at the time, resources were limited. I didn’t know anybody who played the guitar, there was no Internet, no guitar lessons at school, and no money for expensive lessons. It was up to me to grope my way toward my goal. I was like a blind man searching for a light switch. I didn’t know where enlightenment would come from.

When I was about 15 years old, I acquired my first acoustic guitar, a cheap no-name with bailing wire strings.  Then, in a second-hand store, I found a book that contained guitar lessons for beginners. From the book, I learned to restring my guitar with some decent strings and how to tune it. I learned some basic major chords and some old simple classics,  like “On Top of Old Smokey” and “Greensleeves.”

However, my most useful resource was my collection of rock and roll records, LPs, wax disks, or whatever you want to call those old vinyl anachronisms.Once I figured out how to tune my guitar to the same frequency as my turntable, I could listen to the music and try to reproduce the tones on my guitar. And that is how I acquired the guitar fundamentals. By trial and error and determination.

I don’t believe that there is a right way or a wrong way to learn how to play the guitar. I do believe that, with determination and persistence, anyone who is serious about it can do it, regardless of what resources are available. The most important piece of advice that I can give to the aspiring guitarist is to practice, practice, practice. Learning to play could be considered hard work, but to the serious student, it is not work at all. It is more like an extraordinary learning experience.

Next, to save time, find an instructor or a good book from which to learn music theory. To be a well rounded musician, it is essential that the student learn to read music and tab and to discover how the two are interrelated. Technique will come with practice, and eventually the fundamentals will become second nature and you will develop a distinct style that you can call your own.

From experience, I can tell you that you can learn to play the guitar without guitar lessons. However, it behooves you to find some source  of instruction. It will save time and a good instructor will steer you away from time consuming mistakes and bad habits. If you would like to hear more, copy this link into your address bar: http://joe-guitar.blogspot.com/

Effective Online Electric Guitar Lessons

Effective Online Electric Guitar Lessons

Some people consider playing an acoustic guitar very relaxing and fun while some other prefer a more amplified type of music with the use of the electric guitar. A lot of people say that playing the electric guitar is a lot easier because it’s less painful due to its softer/thinner strings while others consider it to be a little harder because you have to control your strumming to get the best if not the perfect beat/tempo. Electric guitars are usually used by professional musicians from different genre but are more famous in the rock ‘n roll scenes where bands do some special acts using their guitars.

If you are looking forward to join online electric guitar lessons and it will be your first time, it is highly suggested that you try the free online lessons first. This way, it will not be too risky especially if you feel like studying alone or a home lesson does not work that good for you unlike being able to be personally taught by a professional at your own home or at a music school. Also, you can choose from all the free tutorials you can see on the internet and adopt different techniques from a lot of experts. However, if you have the cash to spend for a paid tutorial, it will also be good since these type of tutorials have already been tried and tested and approved for trade.

It does not really matter that much if you are pursuing a free online electric guitar lessons or a paid one. Both are effective especially if you put a lot of patience and perseverance into it. You will be able to enjoy the comfort of learning at your own room because through this, you can also experiment using your own techniques and you can start deviating from the norms if you think it can improve the music that you are playing. Playing an electric guitar is not just to be “in” or “cool.” This kind of instrument is being played by passionate musicians, and learning it does not stop with knowing the basics, knowing how to play a chord or how to plug the guitar to the amplifier. It entails knowing how to take care of it like your own partner. Remember, your music is your own life, too.

The Russian Guitar: An Instrument Of The People

Oct

The Russian Guitar: An Instrument Of The People

In comparison with the rest of its family, the Russian guitar has a relatively short history. While the Europe has been enjoying the melodious sounds of the guitar in one form or another since the 14th century, the guitar did not find its way to Mother Russia until the end of the 18th century, nearly 400 years later. However, once it arrived, it found a warm welcome, and the guitar has since become an established facet of Russian culture. Interestingly, its story has been inextricably linked with the politics of the country, and the instrument’s popularity has risen and fallen with the times.

Firstly, the Russian guitar is different from the classical, or Spanish, guitar. The main and most important difference is that the Russian guitar, or semistrunnaya gitara, has seven strings as opposed to the classical instrument’s six. There are also versions with two necks and 11 or 12 strings, but these are less common. The instrument is traditionally played without a pick, using fingers for either strumming or picking. Its invention is attributed to Andrei Sychra, who was born in the late 18th century and wrote over one thousand compositions during his lifetime.

Prior to the revolution of 1917, the Russian guitar was far more common and popular in Russia than the Spanish guitar. Its popularity was at its height during the later half of the 19th century, which may be at least partially attributed to the popularity of “city romance” songs at the time. It was during this period that peasants from the country were flocking to the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg, and these songs, which were guitar oriented and touched upon the life of the common man, were in keeping with the social movement. However, during the early Soviet eras of Lenin and Stalin, such music was considered bourgeois and fell into disfavor. The old Russian school of guitar, however, continued to be strong and the seven-stringed instrument persisted.

Although the Spanish guitar has gained some popularity in Russia over the past hundred years, especially in genres such as jazz and rock and roll, the Russian guitar continues to be the norm. The emergence of Russian bard music, or music written outside of the Soviet establishment, helped combat the influence of the Spanish instrument. This genre emerged in the 1960s, and its music relied heavily on the same techniques originally used in the “city romance” songs 50 years previously. Such music, and the Russian guitars it required, helped prevent Russian culture from being overrun by Western musical influences like the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Up until the late 1970s, Soviet guitar factories continued to produce only seven-stringed instruments. Manufacturers began a gradual switchover at that point and today, both types of instrument are available in Russia. The Russian guitar continues to be popular in its homeland, however, probably due to its flexibility, the relative simplicity of some basic chords and the ease of playing alternating bass lines. In fact, the appeal of the Russian guitar is so strong that Russian emigre guitarists living in western countries have been known to modify six string acoustic guitars to seven string instruments.
