Rock Band on the Wii – Finally!!!

So Rock Band has finally been released for the great Nintendo Wii. But with the Wii lacking the graphical ability of the PS3 and Xbox360 is the game going to be able to compete?

In my opinion, the PS2 and Wii versions are more comparable than to try and compare the Nintendo Wii with a PS3 or Xbox360.

Graphics:

Obviously, the Wii isn’t known for it’s amazing Graphics, it is al about the fun-ness and playability. The graphics are OK on this particular release though as it is not a graphic-intensive release. However, the one video of the band in the background gets tiresome, and the fun of being able to see your own amusing personalised characters was great fun on 360 and PS3 however this feature is not included.

Online:

This is the major downside to the Wii’s release of Rock Band, there is no Online play at all. Which sucks.

Features:

It does ave many features in common with the releases on the other platforms however it lacks most of the customization options which made the 360 and PS3 releases fun. However, it still let’s you and 3 friends create a band and rock-out,which is the whole point in this game, right?

Game Components:

The box includes: A microphone, Guitar, and Drum Kit. (A second Guitar is available for Bass Riff’s etc. at an extra cost). These are all connected through a USB hub which is included that plugs into the Wii’s USB slot. The Drum set is now White on the Wii release and the “skins” feel bouncier and more responsive. All the Hardware feel great and is very similar to the other releases of the game’s hardware.

Music and Soundtrack:

Rock Band’s tracklist features a great mix of songs that includes classic rock, punk, ’80s rock, alternative, and modern rock. Extra tracks are not available for download like on the Xbox and PS3 releases. However, you can purchase a CD that has 20 bonus tracks on that were available for download on the other platforms. Most of the songs are performed by the original artists, though there are a few covers. There’s music from the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, KISS, Bon Jovi, R.E.M., The Who, Weezer, Stone Temple Pilots, Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Soundgarden, and many more. There are a total of 63 songs, 5 more than in previous releases. The five new songs are:
The Police – Roxanne
The B-52′s – Roam
All-American Rejects – Dirty Little Secret
Oasis’ – Don’t Look Back in Anger (One of my personal favorites!)
The Ramones – Rockaway Beach

Summary:

Thanks to do stripped down feature lists, and the lack of online gaming. (Not to mention the 7 month delay behind the Xbox and PS3) The Nintendo Wii release of Rock Band is not the best on the market. However, this doesn’t mean it isn’t a great, fun, playable game, because it really is. Whether there is just you or half of your town round, you can have great fun rocking-out to a really good music list.

My Rating:

7/10

The Electric Guitar: From Big Band To Rock And Roll

Compared to its acoustic cousin, the electric guitar has a very short history. In modern times, electric guitars are most often associated with genres such as rock and roll, blues rock, and jazz. However, this instrument has its origins in the big band music of the 1930s and 1940s. As the jazz orchestras of those days grew and their brass sections increased proportionally, the need for an amplified guitar became more and more pronounced. Adolph Rickenbacher, George Beauchamp, and Paul Barth, all of who eventually founded the Electro String Company, are usually credited with the production of the first electric guitars around 1931. Whoever did it first, the eventual result was a guitar that used pickups to convert the vibrations of its steel strings into an electrical current, which was made louder with an instrument amplifier and speaker.

As mentioned, an electric guitar’s strings are always steel. This is, however, one of the few features shared by all the various types. Electric guitars come in a variety of models, including solid body, hollow body, wood, metal, one- six-, seven-, eight-, nine-, and twelve-string, and even double neck models.

The first of these, the solid body type, is the most common. They are generally made of some kind of lacquered wood, which can be anything from maple, to koa, to ebony. The average solid body electric guitar has six strings, and the vibrations of this type of guitar are produced by the strings alone. This is notable in comparison to the hollow body electric guitar. Although the two types work similarly, the body of the hollow body guitar vibrates along with the strings, which means that the pickups convert both string and body vibrations into an electrical signal. A semi-hollow body guitar is a combination of the solid and the hollow types, and it is generally held to strike a balance between the attributes of the two. Then there are the metal body electric guitars. The bodies of these models are chambered (due to weight considerations), but they are designed to be played as though made of solid wood. Finally, the electric guitar can sport anywhere from one to twelve strings, which makes for, as one might imagine, a plethora of sounds and potential musical applications.

While there are any number of electric guitar manufacturers in the world, some are certainly more famous than others. Fender and Gibson, for example, established their reputations in the 1950s as makers of high-quality mass-produced guitars, and they remain some of the most well-known products available. Other reputable companies include BC Rich, ESP, and Peavey.

The electric guitar has gained a certain notoriety over the years, thanks to its association with a number of high-profile artists, among them Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and the irrepressible Keith Richards. Interestingly, there has been a movement over the past few decades towards the use of the electrical guitar in contemporary classical music. However, such compositions are by no means common, and the genres of rock and jazz remain the primary territory of the electric guitar.

Bok Center Tickets – Country And Rock Are Coming To Okc

“A little bit country and a little bit rock and roll” isn’t a phrase reserved for clean-cut Mormon pop stars. It could actually describe concerts coming to Oklahoma City’s BOK Center in April. Expect things to get a little wild this spring when Bon Jovi and Dashboard Confessional rock the BOK April 8. Later in the month, on April 13, Tim McGraw and red-hot country music trio Lady Antebellum will get you kicking up your boots to some swinging tunes. All in all, April will be a pretty good month for music fans looking to relax with their friends.

First things first: It’s admittedly a little strange to pair the hair-rock tunes of Bon Jovi with the emo crowd (represented by Dashboard Confessional). It’s not clear how the two outfits linked up, but it should be a pretty good show, in any case. Bon Jovi is the more mainstream of the two acts, having reached superstar status way back in the ’80s, when the band just started out. They had plenty of hits littering the Billboard charts, but became especially well known for one hit song in particular: “Livin’ on a Prayer,” which you know fans will be eager to hear when they show up at the BOK Center.

Dashboard Confessional, on the other hand, still has more of an alternative status. The band’s frontman, Chris Carrabba, started Dashboard as a side project back in 1999. The group’s formation was a way to break off from the trend of rock music and focus on emotional, often acoustic music. And it certainly earned Carrabba a lot of notice. The band’s third record—A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar—hit number two on the Billboard charts upon release. Dashboard Confessional was immediately big news on the music scene, and the band’s records were flying off shelves. The alternative music of Dashboard is perhaps more heart-on-the-sleeve than Bon Jovi’s hits, but audiences heading to see one of two outfits when they play a concert together will be sure to enjoy both bands.

On April 13, the BOK Center flips the switch from rock to country. Tim McGraw is the big draw here, being a superstar on the country scene who came up in the industry through the ’80s and ’90s to swipe the country-pop throne from Garth Brooks. Today, he’s still a highly respected artist in the genre, and McGraw continues to put out records that rocket to the top of the charts. His last album was 2009′s Southern Voice, the title track of which recently hit the top of the Hot Country Singles chart on Billboard.

Accompanying McGraw on this tour will be the country-pop trio Lady Antebellum. The band formed in 2006, and wasted no time in earning a reputation for energetic live shows. Their debut album turned them into a major hit on the country scene, and by 2008 Lady A was being called the New Artist of the Year by the Country Music Association. They’ve been nominated for four Grammy Awards so far in their career, winning one for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for “I Run to You.”

With this smattering of shows coming up, you’re not going to want to miss out on <a rel=”nofollow” onclick=”javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview(‘/outgoing/article_exit_link’);” href=”http://www.stubhub.com/bok-center-tickets/”>BOK Center tickets</a>.

School Violence, Drugs and the Devil’s Brew!

To my slightly used brain it doesn’t appear that there is any real sanity in the world today, much less in the hallways of our schools. Kids today are not really a lot different from the ones I knew back in my high school years, except they have a few more challenges than I did when I was a teen.

While we had alcohol, we didn’t have to deal with it because we knew our parents would deal with us if they found that we were even in the presence of the devil’s brew. Growing up a good Southern Baptist, my mother believed that imbibing in beer, wine or whiskey was a mortal sin. As a result, the kids of my crowd in high school didn’t have much contact with drinking.

Drugs definitely were not a problem at our old high school, probably because most of us didn’t know anything about them. All we knew about heroin was what we saw on the huge screen at the drive-in and judging from the hell addicts on the screen were enduring, it didn’t seem to be worth the effort to even experiment with such a thing.

We wouldn’t have known where to find it even if we’d wanted to give it a try. Drugs, to us, were something the doctor gave you when you broke your arm or when the dentist was going to pull a tooth. We weren’t bombarded every day with television programming depicting dopers and drugs.

School violence today is a very scary concern for students and parents alike. There are many reasons for young people to kill each other today, but most of them have to do with drugs. In the high school years of my past, there was only one reason for a fight, always with fists and never with a gun or knife. Girls!

If violence had erupted in school yards back then, it would have been because of a girl! A guy’s honor had to be avenged if there had been a perceived encroachment into the vows of “going steady.” There was a lot of posturing back then, but I can’t remember a single fight. I would have remembered one, if only for the entertainment value.

The same thing happens today, just as it has since the beginning of time. But girls today are different. They’re all movie stars! Girls back then simply didn’t look as they do today. If today’s girls had appeared on our school yards, we would have thought they’d gotten there by way of a time machine! Violence is certainly more serious than it was at my old high school.

I can’t remember there ever being a serious fight from the time I was in the first grade until I graduated from high school. Sure, there was a certain amount of posturing by boys during that time, but I can’t recall a single punch being thrown. Maybe there was violence, but since it wasn’t scattered all over television, we never knew about it.

There was a menacing collection of characters that was called the rock gang, assumingly because they sat on a rock wall on the edge of the school ground, jeering and taunting anyone who walked within shouting distance. After a while they became more of a joke than a threat.

Today’s’ school shootings appear to have much darker motives than someone’s love life being toyed with by an outsider. Reasons for these atrocities range from someone emptying a shotgun into a crowded classroom because they were failing algebra, to slaughtering classmates in the hallway because the devil told them to do it!

A lot has been written about our “troubled teens”, but I can only recall one guy that you could classify as “troubled”. His nickname was Nickel Nelson because everyone he approached he shouted at them to “Gimme a nickel!” He would then roll his eyes, shake maniacally, then spit on the ground and shriek, “Gimme a nickel!” Everyone gave him a nickel! Twenty years later I heard that he owned a large Chevy dealership in Kentucky, an AA baseball team, hockey team and a Division II Arena football team. He was our most “Troubled Teen”. Who knew?

The Rolling Stones Tongue

The Band

The Rolling Stones are an English band who initially based their music on rhythm and blues and rock and roll. They first got together in London and after their first success in the UK, they shortly became just as popular in the US as the “British Invasion” started in the early 1960s.

The band first formed in 1962 when Brian Jones and pianist Ian Stewart were joined by the legend that is otherwise known as Mick Jagger as lead vocals and guitarist Keith Richards. Bassist Bill Wyman and drummer Charlie Watts later completed their early lineup. Ian Stewart was then let go from the lineup early 1963 but continued to work with the band as road manager and keyboardist until his death in 1985.

The band’s early songs were primarily covers of R&B & Blues songs. The 1965 single “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” was their first big single, establishing The Rolling Stones as a top rock and roll band. Beginning with their first album Aftermath (1966,) the songs of Jagger and Richards, helped by the instrumental experimentation of Jones, continued an always present stylistic flexibility. Jones tragically died in 1969 shortly after being fired from the band and was replaced with Mick Taylor. Taylor then recorded five studio albums with The Rolling Stones before finally quitting in 1974. Former guitarist of the band, Faces stepped in and stayed with the band ever since. Wyman left the Rolling Stones in 1993; bassist Darryl Jones, who is not an official band member, has worked with the group since 1994.

The Rolling Stones have officially released 22 studio albums in the UK and 24 in the US, eight concert albums in the UK and nine in the US and numerous compilations; The Rolling Stones have had 32 UK & US top-10 singles, 43 UK & US top-10 albums from 1964 and 2008 and have sold an astonishing 200 million albums worldwide. 1971′s Sticky Fingers began a string of eight consecutive studio albums at number one in the United States. In 1989 The Rolling Stones were inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2004 they were ranked number 4 in Rolling Stone magazine’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. The Rolling Stones are also ranked as the number 2 artists of all time on Acclaimedmusic.net. The Rolling Stones latest studio album ‘A Bigger Bang’ was released in 2005 and followed by the highest-grossing tour in history, which lasted until late summer 2007. In the 1969 American tour, tour manager Sam Cutler introduced them as “The Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World”.

The Rolling Stones are renown in modern popular music for using various musical genresin their recordings and performances, ultimately making their own unique style. The band’s career is known for a continual reference and reliance on musical styles like American blues, country, folk, reggae, dance; world music exemplified by the Master Musicians of Jajouka; as well as traditional English styles that use stringed instrumentation like harps. The band cut their musical teeth by covering early rock and roll and blues songs, and have never stopped playing live or recording cover songs.

The Tongue

The Rolling Stones original logo of the lips and tongue – one of the most well known logos of rock and roll, is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum Collection thanks to the excellent help of The Art Fund, the UK’s leading independent art charity.

The logo was purchased by the Victoria and Albert at an auction in the United States for ,500. The Art Fund contributed 50% towards the total cost of the well known rolling stones lick logo.

The Rolling Stones Tongue was first designed by pop artist, John Pasche in 1970. The pop art design excellently showed off Mick Jagger’s well known lips and the band’s rebelliousness and has been in use by the Rolling Stones ever since.

Pasche was asked to produce the logo after Rolling Stones lead singer, Mick Jagger asked the Royal College of Art in London in 1969 to help him find a design student. The Rolling Stones had been frustrated by the bland and boring designs offered by their record label Decca Records. Subsequently, Jagger visited Pasche’s degree show and this led to discussions for a logo and other work for the Stones’s own label, Rolling Stones Records, after the group’s contract ended with Decca Records in 1970.

David Barrie, Director of The Art Fund, said: ‘This iconic logo, first used on the Stones’s Sticky Fingers album, is one of the most visually dynamic and innovative logos ever created. Designed in the UK by a British artist for one of the country’s most successful groups of all time, it’s wonderful that it has now found a permanent home in London, where the band was originally formed.’

Presentation to Rock Guitar Lessons

Before you begin with the rock guitar lessons, you need to understand that this will not make you a lead guitar star overnight. Rock guitar lessons will only teach you the basics and advanced techniques. You still need to understand and practice enough to be able to master the art of performing rock guitar. The first phase in rock guitar courses will start with theory which will help you to understand the basic parts of the rock/electric guitar, standard notations, guitar symbols, and basic chord theory. You will also learn to play different scales and chords. You will discover to utilize your views and sentiments to perform the guitar so that in the later stages when you are ready to play, you and your guitar will become one!

The next phase of rock guitar lessons will focus on soloing. You may have been overcome by those amazing guitar solos that you have watched at live concerts or on Channel V or VH1. So here’s your chance to learn soloing, which will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons. In the beginner lessons you will understand more about hammer-ons, bends, open position scales, and vibratos. The intermediate lesson is where you will discover to do your own solo and perform it as well. You will also get to learn how to use natural harmonics and play major scale modes. When you reach the advanced soloing lessons, you will be confident enough to produce your solos and this will persuade you to play them more often. The advanced rock guitar courses will help you to perform different techniques especially with speed.

Speed is an important part of performing the rock guitar as well as soloing and you will really have to rehearse a lot to be able to move your hand freely across the guitar chords at high speed. Once you have mastered the scales, the chords and how to fly your hand over the guitar, you are ready to rock!

Rock guitar is not easy to understand but then it is not impossible because we will handhold you through each and every step of our rock guitar lessons. We see a potential rock guitar player in each of our students and learn the need to bring that rock star to the front and our rock guitar lessons have been developed to bring out your true talent.

Rock Guitar Lessons – Playing Rock!

Rock is one of the most well-liked genres of music that came into existence in the early 1960’s and the one tool that represents rock perfectly is the guitar. Rock music is a genre that has evolved from several genres like rock and roll of the 1940’s and 50’s to country, blues, jazz, and even classical guitar. The acoustic guitar has been there for long but the backbone of Rock is actually the electric guitar that has become the ideal device for playing out torment and disappointment that is associated with rock music.

Some of the greatest rock bands of rock music include Pink Floyd, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Animals, The Rolling Stones, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, Jethro Tull, and of course the legend called Bob Dylan. Have you been wondering how to play like David Gilmour, John Petrucci, Slash, Van Halen, Steve Morse, Ritchie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Ritchie Sambora and many others? If you really, really want into performing rock then the first step is taking rock guitar lessons.

Hard Rock Park is America’s newest theme park and the latest attraction to hit Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. For an area that is defined by its tourism industry, the 0 million project is the single largest tourism investment in the state’s history and will presumably target some of the customers who would have frequented the Myrtle Beach Pavilion up until its closure at the end of last year.

Beginning with an Eric Clapton guitar, Hard Rock owns the world’s greatest collection of music memorabilia displayed at its locations around the globe.

The park’s theme is not movies, fairy tales, animals or water shows but reflects the company’s commitment to rock’s culture, lifestyle, legends and irreverence. This rocking celebration of the history of rock and roll is set to help Myrtle Beach enter into a new level.

Located off Hwy 501 just over the waterway, the groundbreaking 55-acre park is a totally immersive, full-day attraction that features something for rockers of all ages, including roller coasters, live shows and entertainment as well as children’s play areas, restaurants, retail stores and a multi-purpose live music amphitheater. Six custom-designed sections bring to life the genres from Rock ‘n’ Roll, showcasing the Beatles and artists from the British Invasion to artists like Led Zeppelin and the Eagles. All of the park’s shops, eateries and attractions are blanketed in an ultra-modern sound system specifically developed for the project.

A giant Gibson guitar sets the tone to the rock & roll inspired Hard Rock Park after guests enter the All Access Entry Plaza and explore eateries like I Want Candy sweets shop and the Amp’d coffee bar. At the Gibson Vegas High Roller Plaza, guests can grab some souvenirs at All Access Merchandise or catch a bite and see a show at The Whammy Bar and Peavey Lounge. The entry plaza also includes the Origins Theater where guests can watch a 12-minute movie about the history of the Hard Rock Cafe.

The Cool Country area pays tribute to southern rock influences and features attractions like the “Just A Swingin’ ” swings, “Muddin’ Moster Race” and the park’s longest roller coaster, the “Eagles Life in the Fast Lane”. This runaway mine coaster includes two lift hills, head-snapping turns and a very familiar Eagles tune blasting in your ears. Guests can get their fill of Southern food at the Rockabilly BBQ and follow it up with a rowdy country/rock show at The Icehouse Theater.
