About The Play

Rock and Roll and Payos. All about Jewish Singer-Songwriters

Rock and Roll and Payos. All about Jewish Singer-Songwriters

There’s a new music scene developing in Israel and spreading throughout the world. It’s got folk-rock roots and lyrics such “it’s fun to be a Jew.” It’s the new original Jewish music.

Jewish music was always around, and flourished in the 60′s with folk singers like Reb Shlomo Carlebach. The famous troubadour was a great performer and composer – but he wasn’t a songwriter. Like Carlebach, most Jewish musicians that were working until recently – only composed Verses from the Torah and did not write their own material. But in the last few years we see more and more Jewish musicians who turn into real singer-songwriters and write about their religious and daily lives as Orthodox Jews.

They say that the trend began with Adi Ran who started his musical career back in the 1990′s in Tel-Aviv’s underground bar scene. His songs were heavily critical, humorist and even anarchistic, influenced with punk music, Bob Dylan and Led Zeppelin. In 1993 Ran became a baal teshuva and got closer and closer to the Breslov Hasidim that dance around the streets of Tel Aviv and spread the word of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov.

But Ran’s music only got better and better. He kept his rock influence and humorist spirit (he’s got a song titled “It’s so fun to be a Jew) and began recording albums that can only be defined as Hasidic Underground. Today, Adi Ran leads the Jewish original alternative music, and proudly carries the title “the Rocker” of Jewish music. Adi Ran’s recommended albums are: Don’t Hit the Rock (“Al Takeh Basela”) and Nothing to Worry About (“Ma Yesh Lachem Lid’og”).

“You know what year it is?” asked me once the singer-songwriter Aaron Razel. “This is 5765″ he then said, “we’re in the 60′s of the Jewish people!” Razel was born in New York and grew up in Jerusalem. After his army service, he received a Master’s degree in Music and started making music in the city of Tsfat. Razel incorporates his own jewish driven texts with modern day music that is influenced by Israeli music, reggae, jazz, Funk and Rock. Razel’s recommended albums are Redemption Time (“Zman Hageula”) and Song of Zion (“Shir Tzion”).

Matthew Paul Miller, you might recognize him as Matisyahu, has brought the word outside of the gates Israel and Jewish people. His Hasidic Jewish reggae is a worldwide phenomena and a number 1 hit amongst all cultures and religions. Matisyahu’s music has a unique mix of rap, reggae and rock and in his songs and listeners can even find words in Hebrew and Yiddish.

Of course that it takes a lot of effort to keep things kosher as a Jewish star. Matishyahu for example, does not put his glasses on while he performs so he won’t see all the dancing ladies, and he has to keep his payos, hat and long beard – even when they’re not in the height of fashion.

Jewish inspired music is relatively new. But with the success of Matisyahu, we can anticipate musical growth and more artists hitting the scene. If you are interested to discover more about new Jewish music or get yourself a CD by one of the artists above, then visit www.Eichlers.com for a full catalog of original Jewish music. Great 60s Songs From An Unforgettable Era

Great 60s Songs From An Unforgettable Era

The impact of 60s Songs on contemporary music should not be underestimated. These days, you will rarely find a musician who has not been influenced by music from this era. People everywhere still rave about this era even those who didn’t live through it like myself

The article hopes to explore some of the most memorable 60s Songs that defined this period. It is important to point out that the criteria does not involve the commercial success of the song, instead, the impact that it had when it was released. So without further ado, here we go.

I Wanna Hold Your Hand ? The Beatles

This was the song that catapulted the Beatles into worldwide fame. Their performance on the Ed Sullivan show in February 1964 singlehandedly started the British Invasion in America and changed the course of music forever. Many say that before this monumental event, American music had stalled. British music brought a new tune and rhythm that defied musical conventions of the time and it struck a huge chord with the American audience. Music had changed forever.

I Can?t Get No Satisfaction ? Rolling Stones

As one of the beneficiaries of the British Invasion, the Rolling Stones released I Can?t Get No Satisfaction in 1965, a very controversial song for the censors, but a song that expressed perfectly the concerns and issues of 60s youth. The song transformed the group into superstars and 60s rock icons and since, their popularity has enduring until today. This song’s status was guaranteed by a crazy hook, crazy lyrics and (according to many) a crazy singer.

Good Vibrations ? The Beach Boys

Between 1965 and 1967, the Beach Boys and the Beatles engaged in a battle for both commercial and innovative supremacy. Experimentation was at its peak during this period and has never again reached such levels. As the story goes, the Beatles album Revolver influenced the Beach Boys album Pet Sounds which in turn influenced Sergeant Pepper?s Lonely Hearts Club Band. All 3 albums are now in the Top 10 most influential albums of all time according to Rolling Stone magazine. Good Vibrations was one of the songs that was produced during this period and it was essentially the creation of leading band member Brian Wilson. Its production became a obsession for Wilson and which led it to becoming the most expensive song produced at the time. At the same time, it contributed to Wilson?s mental deterioration. The Beach Boys were arguably never able to reach such peaks again. Nevertheless, this song will forever remain the legacy of Brian Wilson from a period where anything was possible.

While these songs may have been commercially very successful, the decision to put them in this article was solely due to the cultural and social impact that these songs made. It is because of this that we still remember 60s Songs today.

Fall Garden Chores for Spring Flowering Bulbs

Fall Garden Chores for Spring Flowering Bulbs

As the school busses begin to rumble down the road again we are
reminded that the gardening season is drawing to a close. For
the gardener with an eye toward next spring, however, the season
still promises plenty to be done in preparation of a showy
spring to come. Early fall is the time when we should be
planting our bulbs.

Good soil drainage is paramount for spring-blooming bulb
success. If you have a mostly clay soil be sure to mix in
organic material such as compost to lighten the soil. The soil
pH should be between 6 and 7. If you need assistance in
determining your soil pH or in discovering how to manage its
level refer to your local agricultural extension service for
help.

Spring flowering bulbs are great for beds, in borders, and in
rock gardens. These early risers prefer to be planted in areas
which will not receive direct sunlight during the midday,
especially once the hot summer months roll back around.

Wait until soil temperatures are below 60 F (16 C) before
planting. If you purchase your bulbs before the cold season sets
in you may keep them in your refrigerator until the soil has
cooled sufficiently. The fall planting ensures the bulbs will
have adequate opportunity to develop a strong root system before
they come up in the spring and early summer to greet you.

When you are ready to plant your bulbs, follow the directions
carefully for the depth and spacing requirements and be certain
to loosen the soil beneath the depth of planting. The easiest
fertilization method for your spring bulbs is a single
application of a sulfur-coated, slow-release fertilizer
incorporated into the bottom of your bulb hole at planting time.
After having placed the bulbs in their new home, begin to cover
them with the soil you removed to dig the hole. When you have
covered the bulbs halfway give them a thorough soaking before
covering them with the remaining soil.

With such wonderful options as corn lily, grape hyacinth and
tulips your work will be rewarded in the spring with the finest
of gardening pleasures. The joy can possibly only be compared to
the sound of the school busses rumbling down the road

Is Losing Weight Worth The Trouble?

Is Losing Weight Worth The Trouble?

Every day, in newspapers, magazines, television, and online, we are exhorted to lose weight. Alarming statistics about our national overweight and obesity rates are regularly revisited and the dangers of carrying too many pounds are trumpeted by dietitians, nutritionists, medical specialists, and the weight loss gurus on their talk show tours.

They don’t have to keep trying to convince us that ideal weight is healthier; we know that. No one has to point out that life is more fun when our activities are not hampered by fifty pounds of excess fat; we know that. The joy of accepting that we look attractive and slim doesn’t have to be hammered into our brains; we know it already!

We know the problem. We try to solve it by starting one of the thousand of diets floating through the media. We shell out our money for supplements, pills, support meetings, and online weight clubs. We know what we need to do and desperately try to follow through.

None of us start a diet intending to fail. The money and time we spend is part of a genuine effort to lose, not merely throwing away excess funds to assuage our conscience. But why is the problem getting bigger all the time when millions of us are following the advise we’re being given?

Losing weight is terribly hard. Even more difficult is keeping it off. So we yo-yo our way through life, eagerly embracing every new program that comes along, believing the promises and testimonials we read, and waiting impatiently for the silver bullet we pray will appear.

After years of recurrent failure, we start to feel hopeless. Our dreams are repetitively battered on the rocks of dozens of unsuccessful diet attempts. We begin to wonder if all the effort is worthwhile. Before we throw in the towel and surrender ourselves to a lifetime of fat, let’s look at the process of weight control and see if it’s worth giving it one more shot.

“I want to lose forty five pounds.” A statement like that is usual at the start of a diet. We are willing to take whatever action is needed to get started on our quest. We may try a particular program or a pill or a general cutback in food intake. Whichever approach we take, we are focused on our need to lose forty five pounds.

The first week we lose three to five pounds and we are ecstatic, smiling down at our scale as if it were an ancient genie oozing out of its magical bottle. The second and third week, the loss continues although at a slower pace. We’re still happy and enthusiastic; it is all working as it should.

Somewhere around the fourth to eighth week, we hit the first major hump. We are following our program religiously, resisting the temptation to cheat even when alone, and keeping our eye firmly fixed on that forty five pound goal. One or two weeks go by and the weight loss stops. We tinker with our program, cut our intake to the bone, force ourselves to exercise. Nothing works – the scale mockingly reflects the same numbers we’ve been staring at for three weeks.

The weeks of deprivation, physical pangs, and unfulfilled emotional cravings appear to be worthless. A little voice starts babbling inside our head: what’s the point of the physical and mental pain if it’s not getting us where we want to go? Maybe it’s not the right time or the right diet. Maybe we’re destined to be overweight and nothing we do is going to change that. Maybe our body’s quirks will thwart any diet we try.

We’re on the skids, ready to fall off the straight and narrow. Feeling desperately sorry for ourselves, we allow one little treat to ease the disappointment. One treat leads to another, and another, and another.

Suddenly, we’re back where we started, with another two to three pounds to boot. Frustrated, angry, and overwhelmingly guilty, we look at ourselves in the mirror and bemoan our apparent destiny: to spend the rest of our lives fat.

What happened? We started out with such high hopes and strong motivation. We played by the rules but the rules didn’t work. We tried, terribly hard, but our bodies sabotaged our strongest efforts. We feel worse about ourselves than when we started. Is another try even worth it?

Yes! It’s always worth trying again if we really want to succeed. It is the sum of our efforts that counts if we are to reach our goal.

Remember that goal of losing forty five pounds? We still want to do it but we need to modify our mental approach. Let’s put everything into a new perspective. Let’s restate our goal as wanting to lose five pounds per month. That equates to sixty pounds per year – fifteen pounds beyond our original goal!

Once our goal has been reframed, it lifts the pressure of “I’ve got to keep losing” and reduces the burden to a mere five pounds per month, manageable by almost all of us. Depending upon the kind of person you are, you can dive right in, jump on the diet of your choosing, and lose five pounds the first ten days. Then you just have to maintain for three weeks until the first of the next month. If you’re a procrastinator as I usually am,don’t worry about anything until the 20th of the month. Then take stringent measures to make sure you attain that five pound loss before a new month dawns.

What typically happens is that you grow impatient with this rate of loss. You decide to keep going and lose more. If that happens, so much the better, but limit the mental pressure to that magical five pounds a month. If you end up losing six or eight pounds over the month, don’t fret if the scale needle starts to stick because you’ve already exceeded your goal by 20% to 60%! Celebrate your victory with an ego-building (non-edible) treat.

The reframing of your weight loss objectives in this fashion has unbelievable psychological rewards. You are no longer mentally beating up on yourself for not moving fast enough towards that forty five pound loss elephant, but are feeling so good about yourself for meeting, or even exceeding, that five pound goal that you feel like bubbling over.

And make no mistake about it, feeling good about yourself is absolutely critical in weight loss. We who constantly wage the battle of the bulge are famous for our poor self-image and diminished self-esteem. We hate every roll of fat that pokes over our too-tight waistbands. We wince when the mirror reflects flabby arms and saddlebag thighs. We suck in our tummies until we can no longer breathe, turn sideways, and are still uncomfortably aware that the image we project bears little resemblance to the image in our minds.

We need, desperately, to increase our self-respect and our sense of self-worth. We need to nurture our self-image and self-appreciation. We need to enjoy some continuing successes that can rebuild our battered egos and keep that constant guilt and self-reproach at bay.

Changing the syntax of your weight loss goals can lead not only to a more successful weight loss campaign, but can restore your self-belief and heal the psychological damage caused by too many diet failures over too many years.

Baby Wont Sleep ? Here’s Some Helpful Advice

Baby Wont Sleep ? Here’s Some Helpful Advice

Unless he is hungry, cold, or uncomfortable, it is normal that your newborn baby will spend at least 60% of his time asleep but you may also find that there are some occcasions, whatever you try to do, baby wont sleep.

It is important that your baby learn to distinguish between day and night. When it becomes dark outside, close the curtains and turn the lights very low. Dimmer switches may be useful to help you achieve this and they can be bought fairly cheaply. Make sure he is warm enough, and when he wakes during the night, if you decide to feed him then feed him relatively quickly and quietly without turning the lights up; Also be careful not to play with him or get him excited as this will make it more difficult for him to get back to sleep. In time, he’ll learn the difference between a day and a nighttime feeding.

Your baby may fall asleep immediately after and sometimes during a feeding. He will probably be indifferent to noises such as doors shutting or the radio and in fact, may find certain noises soothing. Babies sleeping patterns do vary though, so if your baby is wakeful after a feeding, don’t insist that he should stay in his crib. In fact, keeping him awake for a short time will often be beneficial to his sleep anyway.

You will probably find it easiest to let your baby sleep in something that makes him portable. During the day, a car seat with a carrying handle is ideal if you drive. If you don’t have a car, a portable bassinet is suitable both day and night since it is easily movable; some types can be attached to a wheeled chassis to become a carriage. When he outgrows a bassinet he will need a proper crib. If you are trying to create a good daytime sleep routine though, it will always be best to let your baby sleep in his crib during the day whenever possible.

Sleeping With You: Some parents opt to have their newborn sleep with them because night feedings are easier to cope with. It shouldn’t be a difficult habit to break after a couple of weeks. If you do sleep with your baby, there is little chance of rolling on top of him, but if you’re worried you may prefer not to have him in your bed.

Maintain Temperature: Pay careful attention to the temperature of your baby’s room. Babies cannot regulate their body temperature as well as adults. To maintain the right level of warmth they need a relatively constant temperature and enough blankets or sleeping clothes to keep them warm – but not too warm.

Sleeping Outdoors: Except when it’s chilly your baby will normally sleep quite happily outdoors but make sure he’s wrapped up and visible at all times and never place him in direct sunlight; choose a shady area or protect him with a canopy. If it is windy, put the hood up on the carriage or bassinet to act as a windbreak. A mesh net will protect him from insects if they are a problem in your locality.

Keep The Baby Comfortable: Your newborn will need to be changed often, and while he is sleeping he should wear something that gives you easy access to his diaper. An all-in-one stretch suit – one with a drawstring at the end so it doesn’t ride up his back – can be very useful. It is important that your baby does not get too hot or too cold. In warm weather a diaper and an undershirt, t-shirt or vest will be sufficient.

In the winter, you can check that your baby is warm enough by touching the back of his neck with your hand. His skin should feel about the same temperature as yours. If he feels too hot and clammy, dress him in a lighter sleeper or remove a blanket.

Stimulate Sleep: Encourage your baby to sleep at night by tiring him out in the day with plenty of stimulation: talk to him, pick him up, and give him lots of different things to look at. If he wakes up a lot in the night because he is wet, use double diapers or diaper liners, and if he cries when you leave him, don’t immediately return and pick him up. Rocking his cot, removing a blanket, or changing his position may be sufficient.

Early on, swaddling or wrapping your baby in a shawl or blanket may help him sleep; the sensation of being tightly enclosed gives babies a great feeling of security. It is also a useful way of calming a distressed baby.

To swaddle your baby, you need a shawl or small blanket. Fold the shawl in half to form a triangle and lay your baby on it, aligning his head with the longest edge. Then fold one point of the shawl across your baby and tuck it firmly behind his back. Do the same with the other point. Tuck the bottom of the shawl back underneath your baby’s feet to keep them covered.

The close wrapping holds your baby’s arms in a comfortable position that feels safe and secure and may also help him sleep longer. If his limbs move while he is asleep, he is less likely to wake if swaddled. Not all babies like swaddling and if yours doesn’t, don’t worry. It is safe to swaddle your baby in cold weather, but keep a check on her temperature by touching his skin. Unwrap him right away if he feels or looks too hot.

Surf’s Up on the North Shore of Oahu

Surf’s Up on the North Shore of Oahu

Offering famous winter waves and summertime bliss along its banks, the North Shore of Oahu is the perfect place to escape from it all and enjoy some of the finest beaches on the Hawaiian Islands. Although widely known for its excellent surfing, you can do more than simply hang ten along the shore of this Pacific jewel.

When wintertime rolls around, most individuals face the dilemma of cold, bitter weather that seems to put a damper on all their favorite activities. Along the North Shore, however, things are just heating up as the top surfers in the country flock to the sanctuaries of surfing: Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Bay, and Sunset Beach. Producing waves in excess of twenty feet from November to January, and hosting the Hawaiian Triple Crown in December, these surf breaks are consistently some of the most spectacular, and dangerous, in the world.

Although the Banzai Pipeline is only suitable for experts in the winter, visitors can soak up the sight of the treacherous waves and the talented riders who dare to tackle its surf. As the wave moves from the deep expanse of the Pacific towards the shallow coral reef, a giant tube forms that is both breathtaking and jaw-dropping for shoreline spectators and surfers alike. Be sure to arrive early to reserve a prime spot on the beach, and don’t forget your binoculars and camera.

From October to April, Waimea Bay presents massive, dramatic waves that can reach up to 30 feet and even pose a threat to expert surfers. The sight of a 30 foot waves crashing into the shore with unrestrained force is always one of the most memorable experiences of any trip and the ultimate way to discover why this is considered one of the world’s top surfing destinations. If you are visiting in January, check the schedule for the Eddie Aikua Memorial contest, which is always entertaining since it requires the waves be at least 20 feet. At the last of the Triple Crown beaches, Sunset Beach, watching King Kong surfers is always a delight as the thunderous peaks crest anywhere from 15 to 30 feet and impose their will on those not up for the challenge.

If the surf buzz along the shore is not exactly your cup of tea, the summer months are also a great time to experience Oahu’s North Shore or set out on a family adventure. Sunset Beach is perfect for families since the waves are relatively calm and the conditions are ideal for swimming. People-watching is also prime here since you will find a wide mix of beach bums. If you visit Waimea Bay in the winter and then in the summer, you may thing that you stepped onto the wrong beach since the waves dissipate and the water becomes calm and glassy. Swimming, scuba diving, and snorkeling are all excellent off of its shores and the soft white sand is perfect for sunbathing and relaxing.

During your summer getaway along the North Shore, be sure to stop by Pu’u ‘o Mahuka Heiau, a well-preserved ancient temple whose name translates into Hills of Escape. Possibly the sight of a human sacrifice, hikers will find exceptional views of the coast and a quiet, serene setting at this national landmark. The 1800-acre Waimea Falls Park is another must-see for its stunning Waimea Falls that have a noticeable reddish tint due to the iron found inside the volcanic soil that flows into the falls from Waimea River. If you get lucky, you may get to watch the professional cliff divers climb the rock wall along falls and dive from up to 60 feet into the cold, clear water below.

No matter what activities you have on your agenda for your stay in this recreational wonderland, a vacation rental makes it easy to enjoy everything you love about this fabulous destination. North Shore vacation rentals offer all of the amenities of home in a stunning setting that is just steps away from the soft sands and gorgeous waters off Oahu. Be Amazed By Famous South African And Zimbabwe Safaris

South African safaris are home to wide spectrum of animal species including the celebrated group of five: the buffalo, rhino, lion, elephant and leopard.

They were not named so because they have gained great popularity but because they mainly offer the experience of witnessing the dance of life happening in sight of travelers. They are the hunters that give fright to their preys. Thus, excitement for their viewers.

Game viewing, as this activity is called, is typically done with walking safari. However, due to the increase in popularity of canoeing, horseback riding and camel safaris walking becomes only one of a tourist’ option. It is designed specifically for the hardy souls though and for the physically fit.

A standard walking safari is composed of 8 to 12 persons aged 12 to 60. This lasts for 3 days and 2 nights. With other modes of game viewing however, one should be in company of a guide.

The flagship of all South African safaris is the Kruger National Park creation of Paul Kruger, the president of Transvaal Republic in 1898. His advanced vision sparked the idea of creating wildlife sanctuaries and preservation areas to let nature continue growing at her own rate.

With the Kruger National Park, South Africa is truly unrivalled in its immense resources. The big five aside, South African harbors some of animal world’s most interesting games such as the wild dogs, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, warthog, an array of antelope species and jackals, hippos, and zebras. Kruger Park is also home for some 500 species of birds and 140 species of mammals.

With its 20, 000 sq. km land area of unspoilt land, Kruger offers visitors not only its animal resources but also its wide spectrum of plant species. South Africa safaris are not only made famous by the Kruger National Park, they also placed their names in top African destination through the fame of The Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park- one of the biggest wildlife conservation areas in the world.

It is not for the fainthearted though. This is the sight for the distinguished black-maned Kalahari lions along with other animal species like bat-eared foxes, blue wildebeest, gemsbok, and the likes. While on South African safaris, never forget to take some images of wildlife with you. Capture them in photos if you can. Animals such as those that thrive in nature pass only once. It would be wise if you can have a token of remembrance from them.

Although many places and creatures in Africa are the best in their own kinds, some still assert that Zimbabwe offers some of the bests.

Be stunned by the waters of the Victoria Falls, be amazed by the rolling hills, experience the circle of life with the enormous elephants and buffalo and never forget, go back in time with the rock arts that were created even before civilizations sprouted.

Although Zimbabwe safaris are only some of the seemingly endless offerings of Africa, wonders of nature can still be found in here that may not be found anywhere else. In this article, we have collected some of the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries that cover Zimbabwe safaris.

Chimanimani National Park, situated at the eastern region of Zimbabwe, this park is the only one that allows hikers and trailers to travel without guides. It is a botanist’s paradise since it boasts hundreds of plant species.

Chizarira National Park, famous for its panoramic views, Chizarira is not for the faint hearted. It has difficult access that very remote. Nonetheless, it offers its guests amazing sites of natural wonders.

Gonarezhou National Park, at one point in time the elephants dwelled in here thus the name Gonarezhou which literally meant as “abode of elephants”. But people are now trying to recover its past but the elephants never forget. They tend to become nasty to visitors.

Hwange National Park, being the premier game viewing area of Zimbabwe, Hwange is the largest national park. It never gets crowded though. The driest months are the peak season for the visits. This is when game viewing is most excellent since animals congregate within water holes. This park also harbors the largest and most diverse animal species in the region, some 400 birds species and the combination of plain animals and the predators.

Lake Kariba, a man-made water reserve, Lake Kariba now serves as the haven for water adventure lovers. It features water skiing, fishing and sailing. Swimming is not allowed since it is also the haven for crocodiles and other reptiles.

Matopos National Park, this is where history seemed to centralized. Packed with many cave men drawings that depict the existence of life in the soil of Zimbabwe even before it was discovered. It also harbors thick population of wild animals including the rare black rhino.

Matusadona National Park, featuring wild mountains and flat plains, Matusadona is truly a land of rising and falling altitudes. It is also known for nursing large herds of both fish eagles and buffalo.

2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx: Soft?!

2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx: Soft?!

What is the big news about the Subaru Impreza WRX? Well, the car boasts same power with a roomier interior and a lighter body. Also, it still rips to 60 mph in a matter of 5.9 seconds. Experts could attest to the fact that such combination is a rarity.

Today, each new model weighs more than their ancestors. This is because automakers keep adding power to compensate. But the Japanese automaker has done exactly the opposite. But it is not all roses. The new WRX is marginally slower in the quarter-mile than the car it replaces, 14.5 seconds at 94.4 mph compared to the 14.3 seconds at 95.5 mph. The car’s chassis setup, according to those who tested the car, is also noticeably softer and there is no shortage of body roll.

On paper, it sounds as if the WRX really has not changed, but the WRX we loved for its finger-in-the-air attitude is gone, replaced by a WRX with its finger on the pulse of the mainstream market, said Josh Jacquot, the Senior Road Test Editor at Edmunds, an auto shopper’s online guide.

“The 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX has received shortage of coverage in the past year, but after all that hype and all that hearsay, what we really want to know is how this AWD beast performs. The guys at Inside Line recently took the 2008 Subaru WRX for a series of track tests, including the slalom and stopping distance tests, and in the end, they determined that the WRX has ‘gone soft,’” said Michael Kwan of Mobile Magazine.

At ,000, the price point is not all that attractive either. That said, even though the new WRX five-door hatchback may look like a family car, it will certainly outrun any production Corolla or Camry, Kwan added.

The Japanese automaker officially unveiled the next generation Impreza WRX at the 2007 New York Auto Show. Since then, its appeal has captivated a multitude. And the magnetism’s blaze, illuminating as Subaru Headlights, evokes what is forthcoming. Created for the 2008 model, the new Impreza is offered as both a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. The dynamic feature of the car is expected to pull more customers.

Unfortunately, not some of the aficionados find it hard to love a “soft” Subaru. “We have had a soft spot in our heart for Subarus for many, many years. In the late 70′s a move to bucolic Bradford, N.H., brought a Brat into our driveway. We figured with winter coming on we needed more than two-wheel drive to make it down our narrow and winding road to work on a winter’s morning,” said Ron Amadon of MarketWatch. “Over 88,000 miles, we had more fun with that little truck than we could have ever imagined at the outset. It was rock solid reliable, sounded like a tractor, and took us everywhere that we wanted to go. What it lacked was much acceleration and some sporty handling.”

But there are still lots of reason to love the car. “Enter the Impreza WRX STI. The brand’s considerable experience with road rallies came into play here with a neat 2.5-liter, DOHC intercooled turbo four under the hood,” he added.

“The sounds the car makes getting up to speed are just great and give the Suby its character. And, they are enough to produce images in your brain of racing across vast surfaces of Sweden or Norway in the dead of winter. Subaru’s ‘Symmetrical All Wheel Drive’ system makes sure the right amount of power goes to the proper wheels and eliminates any torque steer. It should also make it easier to get to the office in bad weather,” Amadon concluded.

Family Camping Holidays in France

When you think of a French camping holiday you may start to think of cold wet weekends away, you could not be so wrong, and with absolutely thousands of campsites in France, you have so many different ones to choose from, and whether you have your own tent, are touring with a caravan or a motor home, the choice of camp sites is endless.

If you were to pick an area of France, then you will not have any trouble in obtaining information on campsites in that particular province and in fact you would probably be spoilt for choice. But there is one place called Brittany that is one of the most popular destinations for a family camping holiday in France and this is due to sandy beaches, hidden coves, rock pools and the coastline that the children just adore.

Yet the Alps is a vast area waiting for the more adventurous camper with mountainous climbs, pretty villages and lakes to explore along with Chamonix, which is the highest town in Europe.

Then there is Paris, the capital city of France, which has everything a beautiful city can offer, and with several campsites around Paris, the closest is just a few minutes from the centre, you will also find others that are located near to Versailles and Disneyland Paris, let alone others near golf courses and fishing lakes.

And although most people end up going through the Rhone Valley without really much of a stop, it is well worth taking a detour either side of the river which is where you can find some beautiful countryside to explore, and in this area you will also be able to find some glorious wine produced on these slopes bordering the river, along with major towns like Lyon.

Most places will be able to provide hook ups for electricity from either 6 amps or 10 amps, plus many other facilities. And on a lot of different sites, rather just touring you can even hire out the caravans, chalets or mobile homes, but whatever you decide is best for you, this is a great way of touring through France.

As you can imagine, there are a vast amount of campsites with lots of different facilities, which you will find are rated with stars in a similar way to that of hotels, so the more stars a site has, the better it will be, although inevitably the more expensive they will be, especially in certain areas of France.

A camping site with one star is a basic site and there is no where near as many these days, due to competition from other campsites, whereas a two star camping site is rated for comfort and has some good amenities, then three star and four star campsites are of a very high standard, not only for the amenities and facilities they have to offer, but also for the quality of these facilities. For example, on a four star site you will often find top class restaurants that are even frequented by the locals for their phenomenal French cuisine, but also complete pool complexes and evening entertainment as a regular occurrence.

But apart from the typical camping sites available, you can also find places to pitch such as camping on farms, but lots of these do not have a wide range of facilities available, in fact some are so basic you will need to have all of your own facilities or they may just about have a toilet and hot shower for you to use.

One quick point, please do remember that it is only in authorised locations around France that you are able to camp and not in places such as woods, yet saying that, when travelling through France it can take hours or days, and we have seen many tired travellers putting up their tents on the grassy areas in the service stations alone the toll roads!.

Most people think of camping as purely a summer activity, but for an extremely reasonable holiday, which can be as low as 50 to 60 percent less in cost, you can go camping in the low season, and dependant upon the area of France you wish to go to, some campsites are even open all year round and still even have facilities such as indoor swimming available.

France can therefore offer you freedom and flexibility, whether you wish to stay in one place for the duration of your holiday, or why not try hopping from camping site to campsite, these types of holidays can offer you everything from excitement and family fun by the coast in places such as Brittany, through to the more sedate holiday staying in the grounds of chateaux in rolling countryside of the Loire valley, but for the more adventurous, you could even have a camping holiday incorporating adventures like kayaking in the Dordogne, or mountaineering in the French Alps

You will be able to get to see ancient ruins, quaint villages, monuments and scenery that you would never think possible in any country, but France has it all, and this is possible in many regions within only a few miles of where you have decided to stay, yet do not forget about the wonderful activities that are available to you on site, which sometimes makes it a hard job deciding on whether you want to leave!
